Last weekend at The
Edison Hotel in New Jersey, USA, a group of well-wishers came together for an
event which was more than just celebrating hardwork. The Iya Foundation a
charitable organisation founded by Iya Bekondo hosted its inaugural Hope Affair
- a benefit dinner and gala.
It was a fundraising
affair which also created kidney and organ donation awareness and celebrated
those who were fighting against the disease. Proceeds from the event will help
foster their programs particularly their newly launched program, the Global
Dialysis Initiative. The Global Dialysis Initiative allows them to provide
assistance to kidney dialysis patients and clinics in developing countries.
“This event
surpassed our expectations on all levels, and yes, our short term objectives
were met. We could however do more, as there are more and more people being
diagnosed and in need, and the fact that we are catering to people with chronic
kidney disease makes it a lifetime commitment. Hence between new diagnosis and
long term management of Chronic Kidney Disease, the need always lingers.”
Stated Iya.
“We are grateful to all
who contributed, made it, and were a part of this event.” she also added.
