HIV is rampant in Africa and in Cameroon the rate is just as alarming.A survey carried out in the University of Nairobi claims that although students were aware of the risks of contracting HIV and most had been tested, more than half rarely use protection.
The cause of this lapse in use of condoms is an 'invincibility' complex where students feel it is other people who will be affected, and not them.
The question is, how effective are these HIV campaigns in Africa? Are these students or Africans less bothered about contracting HIV because antiretrovirals are so readily available and HIV no longer presents a death sentence?

I have found that most people are visual learners. SO programs need to be adopted to have trips to hospitals and etc where they can actually "see" with their own naked eyes...what happens when you don't protect yourself. Tkae them to an AIDs patient ward in a hospital or have someone living with aids recount his/her personal experience

MPN you are right. I've often thought the difficulty is to strike the balance between not scare mongering (we all know a positive attitude towards HIV can lead to the most fulfilling life) and preventing complacency.
