SHIRI ACHU ART BRINGS 36 IN PRINT TO WASHINGTON DC...

Art – Inspired by Africa, Colour, Movement, Dance!

SHIRI ACHU'S FIRST ART EXHIBITION IN THE USA and the artist is all excited as well as nervous!

Since her first solo exhibition 6 years ago, held at the quirky St Augustine's Tower in Hackney, East London, Shiri has been fortunate to have received the award of ‘The best artist in Brent’ (North West London) and has exhibited in various exciting places/events/cities. These include, The Commonwealth Secretariat, The Houses of Parliament, The Olympic African Village...Cities include Adelaide, Lisbon, Barcelona, Douala, and Chiang Mai, to name a few.

Today, Shiri Achu is excited to present in Washington DC, for one week only ‘36 In Print: DC’. This exhibition follows ‘35InPrint: London’ which took place from 19th – 25th April 2014 at the Strand Gallery in central London. It was a great success and it saw the Mayor of Harrow attending amongst many others.

Shiri Achu’s art comes from every day, unsurprising yet unexpectedly vivid moments, times, places and objects. She seeks to capture the spirit of her subjects and make them come alive through form, colour, texture and tone. She draws insight from her travels but in general her inspiration is very broad; from natural moments captured in Africa to still objects, from the human form to the human in action etc.

Ever increasingly so, one of the aim of Shiri Achu Art is to showcase the African culture worldwide. She finds beauty in the woman carrying her child on her back and going her way, she finds beauty in the old lady who makes here ‘achu’ in her dark outdoor kitchen for her grandchildren, she finds beauty in the African fabrics, she finds beauty, envy even, in the young girl climbing the tree!! So she paints these images. For her, they are beautiful moments and for that moment, whilst she works on that piece she buries herself in the story and in the culture.

36InPrint: DC exhibition will largely consist of 36 Framed Signed Limited Edition Shiri Achu Art Prints. You will be able to purchase these limited signed prints at very affordable prices.
During the private view on Thursday 5th May, there will be live music from the fabulous singer Naomi Achu.

There will also be a raffle on the night.  Three lucky people will win signed limited edition framed prints worth $400 each as well as the new album from Naomi Achu!

Shiri Achu Art looks forward to welcoming you at 36InPrint: DC join the invite list here to get all the updates.

THERE GOES ANOTHER CAMEROONIAN MUSICIAN SNATCHED AWAY FROM US...

As if we were not already going through a bad day yesterday with the one year anniversary of tonton Lapiro de Mbanga who passed away in the USA last year, we had to then hear this very bad news to top it up...

'Malinga' crooner, a major voice of the anciens makossa clan of the 80s, tonton Guy Lobe - another muna Sawa has left our world. The news came through early evening yesterday that the artist with his striking height and size had passed away at the Yaoundé General Hospital. The cause of death was not revealed but about two years ago, the artist was announced dead on social media however pictures were then circulated of him gravely ill at a hospital in Paris.

Whatever the cause of death, it is still so very sad to see these artists which were a major part of our childhood die one by one. What will become of our music culture...only God knows.

Guy Lobe's co-artist on the album Passé-Composé (Sans prétention); Joëlle Esso paid homage to him with these words...

Here is a befitting track to bid him bye bye...

DUC-Z FINALLY RELEASES THE MUCH HYPED VIDEO OF ME MARIER. WATCH IT HERE...

A few weeks ago we were all coined to fall into a trap set by R'n'B pop artist Duc-z in which he made us believe that he had popped the question and subsequently changed his marital status with a beautiful bride on his arm. We initially covered the story here. When we were then informed by reliable sources that all we saw was not indeed real, we clarified our story here.

So what is the story? Well Duc-z did infact get married however, it was for a very different reason which is the topic of this post and which you will find here below. Before you scroll down, here are more images from the said wedding...

Ok so hopefully by now you all know the real story. The video was shot by Dream Money Films, we do not see the Empire logo which clarifies that he has parted ways with the label. Watch the video below...

HOTEL ROOM SERVICE ATTENDANT & CHILDREN'S ANIMATOR, ALL IN A DAY FOR STANLEY ENOW

The day of yesterday must have seemed quite long for starboy Stanley Enow as he spent the day doing more than his fair share of giving back to the community on his birthday.

As he tried to regain himself today by catching up on some well deserved rest, we took a look at how he spent the day which included him trying his hand at room service attending at a hotel as well as animating the first entertainment show at the Association "Tous Unis" Little Heights Foundation in Yaoundé.

A man who is ready to serve his own fellow man is a great blessing. He has toured the world and hung out with the movers and shakers of African entertainment but still he can roll up his sleeves if needs must!! Images below.

TOUT LE MONDE DBOU WITH AMBE...

Douala based afropop and Rendez-Vous crooner AMBE has certainly found his comfort zone by creating a music sound that is his with a modernisation of a typically Highland culture and influence. We get to share Ambe's background with him. Dbou is the new song after Les Filles De Mon Pays. To listen, click!

IS BIKUTSI ATTITUDE SELLING US ANOTHER PALA PALA SONG IN BERNARD CLOUD'S AMPOULE GRILLEE?

Not much seems to be online about this fella and we are assuming he is new on the scene and although we very much like the song on first listen, the Bikutsi Attitude artist Bertrand Cloud's new video release dubbed Ampoule Grillee seems very much a recycle of Mani Bella's 2014 hit song Pala Pala from similar lyrics, to the style of the song to even the video scenes and movement of the camera.

The release of the video was posted on Mani Bella's page as she is also featured, her first collabo with a Cameroon artist she proudly stated. Watch the video below and see for yourself.

By the way has anyone else noticed that Bikutsi Attitude are the ones promoting the main bikutsi artists? Imagine that! If they were rap or afropop artists, they would have clawed each other's eyes out by now he he he!!

YAOUNDE BASED RAPPER DAREAL LEAVES FRENCHKIND AND RELEASES BAISSE LA GARDE AUDIO

There seems to be a few artists who are parting ways with their label/entourage and this one came as a little shock because we always assumed Dareal and Frenchkind went together like bread and butter only just to find out par hasard of their break up on a Yaounde based magazine's Facebook page since as there was no formal press release sent out from neither of the two parties.

Oh well, these things do happen and are bound to happen and we guess in such circumstances whatever transpired between them was irreconcilable and therefore they had no choice but to go their separate ways. Anyway...let us move on with them and here we are pleased to bring you Dareal's first release in 2015 as an independent act complete with a new Facebook Page too. It is called Baisse La Garde seen hashtagged online as #BLG. Catch it below...

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH CAMEROON'S NEWEST AFROPOP LADY ON THE SCENE - THE KILLA BLANCHE

No y'all this is not Cape Verde's Amber Rose but yes she is Cameroon's Blanche - the South London based newest afropop mistress on the music scene who is ready to give us some Killa tunes in our earholes!

We go behind the scenes courtesy of AFru Music (Ama Fru) to see how the preparations for her debut video went and we have to admit that we did not expect her to have such great vocals. The song sounds real dope already and we cannot wait to hear it when it is released. Catch the behind the scenes below...
